Annabel Jones

VP Communications

Hi, I’m Annabel! I’m currently in my second year of studies in mechanical engineering at McGill University. Just like Nima, I am also from Calgary! My first time using any software like SolidWorks and Siemens NX was at McGill thanks to the Baja Racing Team! I learned so much in a short amount of time and thanks to the Baja Racing Team, I had the best teachers who made learning the software so much fun! Every member of McGill aCADemy is dedicated to ensuring its students have a fun learning experience and feel comfortable with the software before they begin the daunting journey of learning this at university. As the program’s VP Communications, I am responsible for informing our students of services we’re offering, as well as operating as the direct link between our students and our team. In addition, I am responsible for informing our team of any amendments made, events or any other form of relevant information. For any questions, concerns, or general interest don’t hesitate to contact me.

Mees Franssen

VP Internal

Hello! I am Mees! Originally from The Netherlands, I am at McGill pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, like a lot of the other folks here. My design experience started back in my highschool days where I was part of the Texas A&M Marine Engineering Programs, a London International Youth Science Forum attendee as well as a Brown University Material Science and Engineering program participant. I was even able to design and build a fully automated hydroponics agricultural system for my highschool. I’ve been lucky enough to continue developing my interest in design and engineering with the McGill Baja Racing Team, where I currently work in the pedal subsystem. To me, there is nothing more exciting than design, and seeing the benefits my experiences have given me; I would consider it crucial for students to have a thorough and robust understanding of design processes and CAD software (whether one is intending to pursue a career in engineering, or otherwise). As for my expertise, I have used a wide range of CAD softwares but would consider myself most capable in SolidWorks and Siemens NX. As the program’s VP Internal, I am responsible for organizing regular meetings between the tutors, which will be used to discuss and resolve any issues that come up during sessions. These meetings are essential for refining our curriculum and ensuring that our services are truly beneficial for our students.

Alexander Gupta

Senior Advisor

Hey, I’m Alexander Gupta, a U3 mechanical engineering student from Vienna, VA. Outside of classes I've been on the McGill Baja racing team for four years where I am currently the drivetrain lead. I’ve been using CAD for 6 years now, having had experience working on Siemens NX for McGill Baja and Solidworks during internships. Furthermore, my team and I won McGill’s CAD competition, CADMadness this year. As the program’s Senior Advisor, I provide feedback to the executives based on my knowledge of the EUS' principles.

Marcus Kam

VP External

Good day! My name is Marcus, a second-year mechanical engineering student. My experience with computer-aided design software dates back to my participation in an accelerated program organised by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. There, I studied the basics of CAD and designed a solar-powered toy car to showcase my learning. This gave me a solid foundation that benefitted me considerably for my endeavours, including, but not limited to, my high school fridge project and the CAD work of the fuel grain model and burst disk I have made for the McGill Rocket Team as a propulsion subteam member. My interest in CAD grew as I saw its pivotal role in engineering designs along with sophisticated calculations and its economic implications on projects. In addition, I have had prior experience coordinating events with my committee and our internal and external supervisors as the chairman of our school's astronomy club. Furthermore, through McGill aCADemy, I wish to pass this skill and allow more students to take advantage of modern computational power instead of letting a lack of CAD competency hinder their progress and confine their ideas. Utilising my relevant experience, I will be responsible for coordinating and organising connections between our students and our instructors as the program's VP External. I will also be responsible for devising strategies of garnering interest in our program whilst simultaneously listening to feedback from our students as an assiduous organiser.

Nima Hemati

President

Hi! I am from Calgary, AB, and currently a second-year student, studying mechanical engineering. In regard to relevant software, I am proficient with SolidWorks and Siemens NX. My experience with CAD stems from my time in high school, for which I was the CAD lead of my school’s robotics team - we competed in numerous competitions throughout our province. However, the most prominent period of skill development came from my first year at McGill, which proved to be a transformative experience, made especially complete by my involvement on McGill’s Baja Racing team - a collective of undergraduate students who design, build and race a “Baja” buggy in large international competitions. During my time with the team, I had the responsibility of being the team’s body panel subsystem lead; the position’s duties entailed designing and manufacturing the body panels of our vehicle, whilst simultaneously designing the wrap as well. Currently, I am the transmission subsystem lead for the team, allowing me to expand my depth of knowledge of simulation by applying FEA and physics-based CAD tools to my disposal. This experience, as well as my continuous involvement with the team, catalyzed the development of my CAD skills, which is something that I am eternally grateful for. Furthermore, my experiences instilled a passion for CAD which I would love to spread to others, as I find the process therapeutic and constructive; it provides a medium that consistently stimulates the creative portion of one’s mind. As president of this program, I am responsible for the oversight of the program and executive decisions, as well as coordinating with any of our governing associations (e.g EUS, MAME). If you have any inquiries or concerns (or general curiosity), please don’t hesitate to contact me.

VP Events

I am a second-year arts student, majoring in political science and minoring in computer science. I’ve lived in Ottawa, ON, my entire life. I believe CAD software is hugely important in today’s world, and I figure however I can help teach more people about the importance of them, the better. As VP Events, I use my interpersonal skills to help organize some awesome events for the aCADemy and our students throughout the year! If you ever have any suggestions/questions/concerns regarding our events, feel free to reach out to me.
